In this tutorial I will teach you how the make a book template from scratch. I used this method in this version of Skylish (which you can learn to create here.
To begin, open up a new blank transparent image of any size you want. I'm going to size mine 676 x 452. Fill this background with #FAFAFA. Then using (
) tool, match your settings to mine below:Width: 1.00
Segment type: Line
Color: (Second box crossed out) #DBDBDB
Use this to draw a line straight down the middle, to make sure it is directly in the middle; use (
) tool to continually measure it.
Right click that vector layer we've just created and convert it into a Raster Layer. Now duplicated you background layer. Take the selection tool and match your settings to mine:Selection type: Rectangle
Mode: Add (Shift)
Feather: 30
Highlight the right side of your middle line and go to Adjust > Brightness and Contrast > Brightness/Contrast. Brighten it at it's darkest.
Set that layer to Normal at 4%. Repeat this on the left side, except this time set the layer to Normal at 8% and make sure the selection tool is at a feather of 75. Repeat the exact same step on the right and left corners, see my example on the right if you don't understand. Once you've done all of these merge all your layers together.
Now take your selection tool again at the same settings; except this time change the feather to 0. Highlight both the right and left sides one by one and use the brush tool to colour them in #E3E3E3. Before locking each of these down (CTRL+E), it's optional wheather you'd like drop shadow them. If you chose to these are what your settings should match to: Verticle: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 40
Blur: 13
Color: #808080
Once you're done merge all of your layers together again.
Final step! Take (
) tool and match your settings to mine below:Selection type: Point to point
Mode: Add (Shift)
Feather: 0
Smoothing:
Anti-alias: NOT ticked
Use this tool to select a section off of the top and the bottom (like the example on my right), once you've done that press delete. When you've completed this merge all of your layers together for the last time - and you're done!
