In this tutorial I will teach you how to make easy scratch textures via Paint Shop Pro. Scratch textures can go very wrong if the method is not done well, you can end up with an image that looks too overcrowded so it's important that your strokes go 'just right'.

To begin with open up an image on paint shop pro, adjust the image to whatever size you want your texture to be. My image is sized 893 x 700. Fill the image with a solid color of black.

Take tool and match your settings to mine below:
Line style: Solid
Width: 1.00
Colour: White
Aniti-Alias: Ticked
Create as vector: Ticked
Use this tool to simply draw various lines accross your image. Think about your composition: too many lines will make the scratch texture over crowded.

Once you are happy with your lines, create a new raster layer and fill it with #000000, then select Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise, match your settings to mine below:
Uniform
50% Noise
Monochrome
Press OK and set that layer to Darken at 100% - after, merge all of your layers together.

Next, duplicate the bottom layer and select Image > Mirror, after that select Image > Flip. Set that layer to Screen at 50% - this adds depth to your image. After you've completed this step merge all of your together.

Once you've done this, duplicate your base image again select Adjust > Add/Remose Noise > Add Noise, use the same settings as explained earlier. Press OK and set it to Normal at 20%.

Almost done! Select this: tool again and match your settings to mine below:
Line style: Solid
Width: 2.00
Colour: White
Aniti-Alias: Ticked
Create as vector: Ticked
Mode: Point to Point
Draw two groups of larger lines accross your texture.

Right click the vector layer you just created to make those two groups of lines and convert it to a raster layer. Then go to Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Edge Preserving Smooth, smooth it at 30 and repeat this step one more time. When you've done that select Adjust > Blur > Gaussian Blur, blur it at 1.45. Set that raster layer to Normal at 50% then merge all of your layers together and you're done!
