Converting Photographs to Brushes

One day I was in my dining room talking to my brothers when I accidently made a frame behind me drop off the wall. When I picked it up I realized that it was a very pretty image of a flower and I was pretty shocked to find that there were about eight of them in my dining room that I'd never noticed. I felt they would be good to turn into brushes. In this tutorial I'll teach you how to take a simple photograph of something floral and turn it into a brush. It's a very simple tutorial.

First open up your image on Paint Shop Pro. You will probably want to re-adjust the size. The image I am using is displayed on the right.

Go to Adjust -> Hue and Saturation -> Colorize, set your settings to match mine:
Hue - 187
Saturation - 0
Press OK, your image should now be black and white.

Duplicate your base layer, set that duplicate to Hard Light. Duplicate this Hardlight layer 5 times then got to: Layers -> Merge -> Merge All.

To finish off; go to Adjust -> Brightness and Contrast -> Auto. Contrast Enhancement. Match your settings to mine:
Lighter
Normal
Bold

To make it into a brush, click on this () tool, and in the section where it displays your brush options click on the arrow followed by the brush tool again. The rest is self explanatory.

Now you can use that brush in any way with any colours.
