Life Lately | Roundup #1

I’ve been thinking of starting up ’roundup/summary’ posts on my blog for a very long time now, but I’ve never known if I had enough interesting things to write about and share pictures of. Now that I’ve got an Instagram, sharing my life and pictures of what I’m doing has been a more regular occurrence, which means Instagram has given me a hub of photos to help me in finally getting down to doing roundup posts. I miss the more personal posts I’d do when I first started blogging, so with these posts it’s really all in the title – life lately – what I’ve been up to, what I’ve been enjoying, with any stories or antidotes I may have to share. I’ll try and do these every month or so, depending on how busy I am and how much I have to say…

 

I snapped this photo before the LSE SU Fashion Society’s annual charity fashion show. It seems that in my three years at LSE, the only two events I’ve been loyal to each year have been the annual ACS debate, and this annual fashion show. One of my good friends Andre has walked in the show every year, and this year was behind organising it all as the Vice President of the Fashion Society, so I always go down to support him, as well as any other friends I may have walking in the show. Interesting story – the event was held in a Mayfair club; queuing up outside the club, two men actually tried to plot to steal my phone, through a series of looks, gestures, and communicating through their eyes but as though they didn’t know each other. Luckily, my boyfriend noticed and got me to put it away. It’s a bit scary to think that someone could’ve snatched my phone out of my hands and ran away with it because I was too fixated on Instagram – definitely a lesson to be vigilant with my belongings when I’m out and about from now on.

 

 

 

 
This month, I’ve finally gotten around to investing in a DSLR. When I first started blogging I used my webcam for photos, from there I ‘graduated’ onto a BlackBerry, to a Samsung, to a digital camera. Last year I bought a bridge Fujifilm camera, the halfway point between a DSLR and your basic digital camera. I was happy with it for a long period of time, but seeing as I’ve been investing a lot more time and effort into my blog this year to make it better, it didn’t make sense to me not to invest in something a little more high end. I’ve tried this camera out now (shot some photos for an upcoming product review), and I’m so happy I decided to buy it. It’s something that can be utilised outside of blogging too – I really can’t wait to take some amazing quality holiday photos this summer!

 

 

 

 

My boyfriend gave me these roses on Valentine’s Day just before we headed out; I’d booked an afternoon cruise of the Thames for us with City Cruises after seeing it written about on a travel blog. I found some cheap student tickets, and decided I would book it and surprise him with it on the day. I actually really loved the cruise and thinking about it makes me excited again. We sailed from Tower Hill into Westminster whilst having an entertaining talk to do with all the views around us. Did you know, the only bridge in London to be built on time, and under budget, was built primarily by women in World War 2? That definitely embodies girl power.

I’ve been discovering a lot of photos recently that never made it onto my blog; for one reason or the other, I decided I just didn’t like them enough, and when I look back at them, I wonder why. This is one of those photos – it was shot outside Somerset House by my friend Andre some time last year, although I didn’t like it much at the time, I like it enough now to put it in the header image of my blog. As you can see, I’ve totally redesigned my website. I spoke about it a bit in my last post here, and I’m still tweaking it each day as I come up with more ideas. I’m really loving it right now and the professional feel it gives my blog.

 

 

 

 

This photo was taken just outside Canary Wharf. I was down there a couple weeks back to grab a coffee with an employee, and LSE alumna, just to have a general chat about life and the prospect of a looming graduate job in the Wharf. I’m gonna be honest, for the past academic year I’ve been terrified about starting work, and the fact that it was drawing closer and closer was genuinely making me feel very nervous. It’s really the start of a whole new life – less lie ins, harder work, but I guess on the plus side… more money. After having a lovely chat with this employee, I walked away feeling a lot better. You really can’t be afraid of hard work, and I know that I definitely shouldn’t be afraid of starting a new chapter in my life.

 

 

 

 
Last but not least, I have this one of my boyfriend and I up in The Shard. For my mum’s birthday last year, we took her to a place called Hutong, it’s a Chinese restaurant and sits on the 33rd floor of The Shard. Ever since, I’ve been telling my boyfriend about how tasty it was, and how much I want to take him there for his birthday. In the end, he decided to surprise me and took me there instead. Life can get really busy and routine, and me and my boyfriend have been together for quite a while now, so little trips like this or like the trip we took on Valentine’s Day, really gets us to relax and appreciate our relationship, which we never usually do.
